PLANTATION HUNTING AT ITS BEST!

Big Red Oak Plantation is in the heart of the west central piedmont region of the state where gentle rolling hills, tall oak and pine trees, abundant Broomsedge, and other native grasses, and thriving wildlife make it an outdoor person's paradise.

About Big Red Oak Plantation
The decline of the native Bob White Quail led to the establishment of the hunting preserve in 1974 to restore the quail population and as a side line to farming.  Now where cotton, peaches, corn and soybeans were grown, the 3500 acre farm is planted in switch grass, love grass, small grains, clover, partridge pea, and bi color lespedeza strictly for wildlife management.

In 2004, we added a state of the art Sporting Clay Range with 5-Stand.  The range is a fully automated course, set amongst hard woods to fields, always keeping in mind the comforts of our customers.  A great joy for the novice and the experienced alike.  We also added a few new buildings, a Pro-Shop with a full line of Shooting Inventory and ammunition, a Pavilion that can accommodate 150 plus people and a covered Bar-B-Q area.

Now you can experience it first hand. Close enough to town for convenience, yet far enough out in the country for real enjoyment.  Gay, Georgia is centrally located approximately an hour's drive from either Atlanta, Columbus, or Macon on Ga. State Highway 85/74, and only thirty minutes from LaGrange, Newnan, Fayetteville, Thomaston or Griffin.  All major airports and many smaller airports are easily accessible.

Arthur Estes, the founder of Big Red Oak Plantation is a sixth generation family member to live and work on the land. He operates and maintains the hunting preserve year round.  "Quail hunting and bird dogs have been my lifelong passion."

HUNTS

Big Red Oak Plantation offers a variety of hunting packages for Bob White Quail, Pheasant, White-Tail Deer and Turkey

Quail Hunts
The morning quail hunt begins at approximately 9:00 A.M. and lasts until noon.  The afternoon hunt begins at 2:00 P.M. and lasts until dusk.  Lunch is included in the price of the full day hunt, or with reservations, can be provided with a half-day hunt.  A hunting party consists of one guide with at least four dogs and two hunters per party ( three maximum).  The guide will pick the hunters up in front of the lodge in a pickup truck or jeep and proceed to one of the 8 quail courses.  He parks in the center of the area and the hunt begins.  Also available are specially equipped jeeps and golf carts for hunters with difficulty navigating the terrain on foot.  At the conclusion of the hunt, harvested birds can be exchanged for freshly cleaned birds from the previous day.

Turkey Hunts
We offer Turkey Hunt packages as Half Day, Full Day and Season Passes.  Half Day and Full Day hunts are offered Guided or Non-Guided.  Season pass holders may come and go as they see fit to obtain their Turkey's (must follow Georgia Big Game License requirements throughout the season).  Turkey season runs from Mid-March to Mid-May.  Georgia limit and license required.  Licenses are not available at the Pro-Shop.  Lodging and meals are available for additional fees.

Continental Pheasant Shoots
These shoots have been very popular since we started them in the 2000 hunting season.  Pheasants are released from a 25 foot metal tower, constructed from the top portion of an old water tower, atop a hill varying in elevation from 40 feet on the east side to 20 feet on the west side.  Shooting stations are positions in a circle around the tower, which is concealed from view by small trees and bushes.  Shooters rotate around the tower after ten pheasants are released making different shots at each position.  Variable winds make shooting extremely challenging.  Dog handlers with Labrador Retrievers are positioned behind the shooters to retrieve downed birds.  At the conclusion of the hunt, the total number of birds harvested is divided by the number of shooters and each is given an equal amount of dressed birds.

White-Tail Deer Hunts
We offer two and three day packages on our deer hunts.  In Archery, Primitive Weapons and Rifle.  All hunts include lodging, meals, professional guides and transportation to and from stands.  Mornings start with a continental breakfast before sunrise and transportation to your stand.  At which you can decide if you would like to be picked-up for lunch or stay in your stand.  After dark you will be picked-up and taken back to the lodge for a home made southern supper.  If you have a deer down, we will pick it up or assist you in finding it.  We have several game processing options.  Georgia Big Game License is required to hunt Deer/Turkey and is the responsibility of the hunter to obtain this license prior to the hunt.  Licenses are not available at the Pro-Shop.

Hunt or Train Your Own Dog
This option gives you the opportunity to work or hunt your own dog, whether to sharpen your dog's skills or train your dog to hunt quail, we have it for you and your dog.  We will be more than happy to set-up the field anyway you like or you are more than welcome to set your own field.  You may choose a half day or full day.
